Family is an essential part of culture because it brings together personalities in which they are not blood. For example, the article, We Should Make a Documentary About Spades states, “and the implications of calling someone who is not your brother or sister brother or sister (Hayes). This exemplifies how in the black culture you do not have to be blood to call one another family. Family isn't within blood it’s the people you surround yourself with and be yourself with. As stated in A Letter to My Nephew, through your father and mother and grandmother, looking about these streets through which they were carrying you, staring at the walls into which they brought you, had every reason to be heavy-hearted (Baldwin). Explains
how your parents have a hold on you, and where they have any right to mold you in the family in any way they feel.

Language is embedded in culture by its being unified. Based A Letter to my Niece states No suggestions " if you show me that if there's one purpose in this world for us where all those dirty words and narrow definitions can build ourselves without judgment or fear it shall be from whom whence, we came (Felton). This exemplifies that black people have a better understanding of two other black people with language. Language also could be the way people talk without using words, like gestures. The article states “Yes, your granddaddy as you come to learn is quiet when angry and mostly spends his time shaking his head.” This explains how gestures can be another form of language.

Reflection:
When I first started writing the expository essay for ENGL 1101, I expected it to be challenging, tough, and time-consuming. My experiences during this writing process have been fair well. This essay was very much tough as I expected it to be. Threw out my time doing it I ran into a couple of conflicts that made me turn it in late, but I was able to submit it. While moving forward in writing essays I will be more confident and able to explain and write thoroughly about several topics.
I learned expository essays explain information. In the future, I can apply what I learn to write an expository essay by communicating between a topic and putting all thoughts and information into my essay. Grammar was a big part of my essay. My professor gave many explanations and read each article to make sure every student did not have a chance to not read it or must struggle reading it alone. I learned this by making mistakes in my essay and by my professor correcting what’s wrong. In the future, I can apply it to things done in the future because I can know corrections and can fluently write essays. I have learned to brainstorm and annotate passages to find out information when about writing. I can use writing as inquiry in the future by brainstorming, and annotating passages, to find out more details about my topic.
